Indi-Anna Chorus celebrates
its 35th Anniversary |

|
The
International Board of Directors recently presented
the Indi-Anna Chorus with a 35-year award. The Board
said that it is a significant achievement for a
chapter to reach this goal of longevity in chapter
life and congratulated the chorus.
Three members of
the chorus have earned 35-year pins. Connie Hill,
June Wyne, and Betty Hutchinson, charter members of
the chorus, were recognized at a recent dinner
meeting. |

The Indi-Anna Chorus History
The Indi-Anna Chorus, a chapter of Sweet
Adelines Intl., was chartered in 1974, an outgrowth of a
group of women who liked to sing and originally called
themselves the “Indiana Good Time Singers.” The chorus has varied in size from the
original 20 singers to a chorus of 44, with a current
membership of 25.
The chorus won fifth place in Region #18
in 1981 at Youngstown, OH under the direction of Mary Lou
McKinney. In Region #19 the chorus won third place Small
Chorus Award in 1996 and second place in 1997. In 1998 the chorus
won first place Small Chorus and in 1999, third place Small
Chorus Award under the direction of Vicky Westley. In 2008,
again under the direction of Mary Lou McKinney, the chorus
brought home the Region #17 third place Small Chorus Award
and the Most Improved Chorus Award from competition in
Cleveland. For the second time in Region #17 and under the
direction of Mary Lou McKinney, the chorus won the third
place Small Chorus Award in 2009. |

Our Director, Mary Lou McKinney,
has been a member of the chorus for many years and
has received training in the art of barbershop
singing. She has assistant directors who participate
in planning and implementing events. Each rehearsal
includes voice and physical warm-ups and education
in correct breathing, posture, and attitude for
barbershop singing. Past directors of our chorus
have been: JoAnne Love, Joe McWilliams, Mary Lou McKinney,
Mary Sue Wade, Vicky Westley, and Mary Jane Gatti.
The Indi-Anna Chorus offers
entertainment as a chorus or ensemble. We love to do what we
do best—sing! Invite the Indi-Annas to provide that special
musical touch to your holiday gathering or party. Our
programs can be custom tailored to fit your theme and
budget. We offer singing telegrams for birthdays,
anniversaries, or other special occasions. If that special
person in your life is unable to get out to one of our
singouts, we’ll go to them and cheer them up! |
